College Planning - Juniors

Great ways to begin to prepare for the College Admissions Process
    • Any time you are traveling visit colleges anywhere and everywhere you go. Getting a sense of various college campuses and their unique environments will be helpful for your high school journey.
    • Participate in programs of interest to you.
    • Consider getting a job.
    • Contact all colleges that interest you and request your name to be put on their mailing list.
    • Check the website of colleges that interest you for their visits in our area.
    • Participate in College Rep Visits - Over 120 College Reps from across the country will visit PVPHS. View the list and sign up on Naviance. By adding schools to your “Colleges I’m Thinking About” list you will receive an automatic email notice if/when that school books a visit to Peninsula.
    • Go to CCC Lunch & Learn Sessions - many reps will also provide valuable information regarding topics such as The Application Essay, Going Out of State, The Interview, etc.
    • Research Scholarship possibilities on Naviance now.
      • Click on "colleges" tab (Naviance homepage)
      • Click on "scholarship list"
    • Complete any college entrance test preparation, if necessary.
    • Receive the SAT Question of the Day and ACT Question of the Day via email.
    • Sign up for any college entrance tests - SAT, ACT, SAT Subject tests - you need to take in the fall or spring. If choosing to take the ACT, be sure to take the ACT with Writing.
    • SAT Subject Test: Check the website of schools you are considering to see if subject tests are required for the application process. Speak to your counselor to determine if you are a candidate for taking a Subject Test in May or June of your Junior year.
