GENERAL

SCHOLAR QUIZ CHAMPIONSHIP

Today is the day! Come to the Main Gym at lunch and cheer on your team (if they made it this far) as they battle for this year’s Scholar Quiz championship title.

 

FRESHFEST

Operation Freshfest continues today with is Identity Theft Thursday, so dress up as one of your friends or teachers to show off your skills at disguise! Go to the gym at lunch to check out the Scholar Quiz finals. Take a selfie while you’re there and show it to everyone at the big bash tomorrow. You could win a prize! FRESHFEST IN-N-OUT TICKETS

Freshmen, don’t forget to buy your Freshfest tickets for In-N-Out at the Student Store TODAY through Friday. You must have a ticket to get In-N-Out on Friday. There is no charge to get a ticket if you have a Link Crew card; $10 without. Tickets are limited, so don’t delay. Get yours now!

 

LANGUAGE ASSESSMENTS

The summative ELPAC is given to all English learners during periods two, three and four this week. Call slips will be delivered during period one.

 

LIBRARY CLOSED

The library is closed periods one through four this week with limited usage available during period five.

 

JAZZ BAND CONCERT

Here’s your chance to see how good Pen’s musicians are. Come to the jazz band concert TOMORROW, April 19 at 7:00 pm in the PAC. Students are free and adult ticket $15.

 

FREE SUMMER CLASSES

Looking for a free option for your summer school course? Come to hear what classes Harbor College offers PVPUSD students in art and social studies. A Harbor College counselor will be at Pen TODAY during lunch in the CCC to answer questions and talk about enrolling, the format for the courses, and help with applications.

 

MOMENTUM DANCE SHOW

Don’t miss the last performance of the annual This Is US dance show performed by Peninsula dancers TONIGHT at the James Armstrong Theater in Torrance. Doors open at 6:30 pm each night and the show starts at 7:00. Good news! Tickets will now be sold at the door for $15 CASH ONLY or they may still be purchased from any Pen dancer or Mrs. Tsudama in the South Dance room during Panther Time and lunch.

 

AVID OPENINGS

If you are a current ninth grader who is interested in joining AVID as a sophomore, there are a limited number of spots open for next year. AVID is a program to help students who fall in the academic middle and need help with organization. Come by H52 TODAY at lunch for a mandatory information session. After attending the session, interested students will be given an application and teacher/counselor evaluations requested. Interviews will follow. Email [email protected] with questions.

 

STUDENT SCHOOL BOARD REPRESENTATIVE

Do you want to see how the school board works? Apply to become a student school board representative for next school year. The application is available on Peninsula’s website under Panther Picks or in P115. Deadline to apply is TODAY. Contact Mrs. Hendrick at [email protected] with questions.

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Vista Grande is having its annual spring festival TOMORROW, April 19, from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Volunteers are needed to run the game booths and generally help out. Volunteers earn 3.5 service hours. Click here to sign up.

SLL LEADERSHIP CLASS

Attention changemakers! Are you interested in making our school, community and world a better place? Apply for the Service Learning Leadership class and be part of the planning for Walk for Life, Willenberg, the food drive and more. This is a UC approved elective that teaches leadership skills. NHS TUTORS

Everyone needs help with schoolwork now and again, so members of Pen’s National Honor Society are offering free after school tutoring for students grades 9 to 11. NHS can provide up to two hours per month of tutoring per student. Click here and go to the “request a tutor” tab. Fill out the Google form and submit. You will be contacted as soon as a tutor is obtained and available. There is also tutoring most school days during lunch in the library on a drop in basis.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

INFORMATION SESSION

Interested in pursuing a career in business or the culinary arts? Don’t miss the information session on both these opportunities in the CCC at lunch on Tuesday, April 23. You’ll hear about courses available next year at Pen which will earn you college credit and give you a baseline knowledge of building a career in these fields.

The Young Life Club meets TODAY in S53 at lunch.

 

GEOGRAPHY CLUB

The Geography Club meets TOMORROW, April 19 in H43 to learn more about the world and enjoy games.

 

UNITY CLUB CLOTHING DRIVE

Earn free pizza by bringing your gently used clothes to P121 during lunch to donate to the clothing drive held by the Unity Club TODAY and TOMORROW, April 19. The donations will go to the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles. Donating five items gets you one slice of pizza this Friday at lunch; donating 10 or more items earns you two. 

 

CAR CLUB

Interested in cars and car culture? Don’t miss the next meeting of the Car Club TOMORROW, April 19 at lunch in S42. You’ll learn the ins and outs of 4-wheel vehicles. Snacks are provided.

 

ATHLETICS

DANCE AUDITIONS

If you want to be part of the dance classes offered at Pen, you must take part in the auditions next week from April 22 to 26. There are workshops on Monday, Apr. 22 and Tuesday, Apr. 23 from 3:45 to 6:00 pm. The review day is Thursday, Apr. 25 from 3:45 to 5:00 pm and auditions are on Friday, Apr. 26 starting at 3:30. All workshops and auditions take place in the South Dance Room. The online audition form must be turned in by Monday, Apr. 22 before 3:00 pm and may be found on Pen’s website under the athletics tab, then click on Choreo Company.

 

TRACK & FIELD FUNDRAISER

Help Pen’s track and field team by visiting The Habit in the Peninsula Center on Wednesday, Apr. 24 between 4:00 and 9:00 pm. You may tell your server when you place your order in the store that you are a supporter of Pen’s track and field program or use the code GIVEBACK if you are ordering online. Your participation means that 20% of your order goes to our track and field team.
