<p style="text-align: center"><strong>OPEN CHOICE</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center">Spring 2019</p>
<p>During the 4<sup>th</sup> Quarter, you will complete one of the following projects:</p>
<p>This Assignment will be turned in via the network drive from computers.&nbsp; Please use your last name and the assignment to name the file (e.g. “Smith_Narrative_LargeGlasses_Script”).</p>
<p><strong>Option 1: Open Narrative (2-4 students)<br></strong>This is an open narrative project. You may create a short film about <em>anything</em>. As long as it is school appropriate.</p>
<p>Time: 3:00-10:00 minutes</p>
<p>Genre: Open</p>
<p><strong>Option 2: Advocacy Film (1-4 students)</strong><br>Advocacy pieces can be done as narrative or documentary films. The key is the message or idea being conveyed. They can push a personal agenda, a social agenda, local or global.</p>
<p>Time: 3:00 - 8:00</p>
<p>Suggestions for filming and editing:</p>
<ul>
<li style="text-indent: -.25in">Pick an idea or concept that you are passionate about.</li>
<li style="text-indent: -.25in">Consider a personal story (not necessarily your own) to aid your development. Feel free to dramatize or fictionalize if sensitive.</li>

<p><strong>Option 3: Documentary (1-4 students)</strong></p>
<p>For this assignment, students will be producing a short documentary about a topic of their choosing. The subject can be something academic, about a hobby or passion of yours or a person. You will research the topic, shoot original footage and conduct interviews about the topic.</p>
<p>This Assignment will be turned in via the network drive from computers.&nbsp; Please use your last name and the assignment to name the file (e.g. “Smith_Documentary_Optometry_Final”).</p>
<p><strong>Time: </strong>3:30-12:00 minutes [NOTE: Film Festival maximum is 10 minutes]</p>
<p>Suggestions for filming and editing:</p>
<ul>
<li style="text-indent: -.25in">Pick a topic that interests you.</li>
<li style="text-indent: -.25in">Pick a topic that will allow you to shoot footage / interviews instead of relying on entirely found/stock footage.</li>
<li style="text-indent: -.25in">Please take this seriously. Even if producing a Mockumentary, the subject matter must be treated with respect and importance.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>You may choose an option that overlaps with something you did first semester, however, you may not cover the same topic.</strong></p>
<p><strong>DUE DATES:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Option Choice with Outline </strong>– You will need to let me know what you are doing in advance – this includes which option and the topic, and this includes an outline of your approach (50 points each): <br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Due March 26 at the <strong><u>start</u></strong> of the period.</p>
<p><strong>Script (Dialogue or Shooting/Editing Script or Storyboard)</strong> – No matter what project you are doing, there must be a plan in place (50 points each):<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; April 11 at the <strong><u>start</u></strong> of the period.</p>
<p><strong>Rough Cut – </strong>A rough cut of your final project, turned in to the Network Drive (50 points)<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; May 8 at the <strong><u>end</u></strong> of the period.</p>
<p><strong>Final Project</strong> – Final projects turned into the Network drive (150 points each):<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; May 24 at the <strong><u>end</u></strong> of the period.<br><br></p>

Music videos can have two different approaches, a band performance or a Storyine. </span><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; color: #3b3b3b; background: white">Storylines&nbsp;are abstract and open for interpretation so there’s no real science behind it.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%">What are you producing?</span></strong><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%"> <br> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A Storyline video. Unless you know a band and want to work with them, you are going &nbsp;<br> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; to be producing a Storyline video.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%">How do I begin?</span></strong><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%"> <br> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Step 1: Pick a song.</span></p>
