<div>Begin filming for your Video Log Covid-19 Documentary.&nbsp; We want to eventually edit it down to about 30 seconds a day, but shoot more than that.&nbsp; I'd say you need about 2-5 minutes of footage a day.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>WRITE YOUR DAILY MONOLOGUE FIRST.&nbsp; Edit it, work on it.&nbsp; Don't try to wing it.&nbsp; Read it off your computer while you record, etc...</strong></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Remember to set your phone to "most compatible" or similar.&nbsp; Use your computer's cam if you have one as well.&nbsp; Remember lighting and background.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>You can include a range of people in this, from people in your house to friends you are texting/video chatting with.&nbsp; Perhaps one day you interview a friend/relative living in a different place.&nbsp; Get creative</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Shoot footage and record voice over with your phone's voice memo recorder.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Log your footage and audio.&nbsp; Keep organized with your files and clips.&nbsp; Expect a tutorial on logging footage.&nbsp; For now, use excel or word to note what you recorded (file names, types and length, as well as subject).</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Goals:</div>
<ol>
<li>Document what is happening to you.&nbsp;</li>
<li>How are you living this new reality.</li>
<li>Take us through your moments... fear, boredom, new challenges, insights, little wins, etc... are all good.</li>
<li>Capture video from your computer screen/game console as well.&nbsp; We are moving to a virtual experience.&nbsp; Document it.</li>
<li>Balance footage of yourself with narrated shots of your world now.</li>
<li>This should be raw... we are trying to capture the reality, excitement, and the monotony of our new socially distanced lives.</li>
</ol>
<div>If you want to screen record on a Mac, use Quicktime... it may produce an audio video lag but no worries.&nbsp; Also try OBS:</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><a href="https://obsproject.com/" target="_blank">https://obsproject.com/</a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Check back daily for assignment updates and resources.</div><br>

									<div>Today's vlog theme is:</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>My new routine pt. 1 (2 day theme)</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Address your new routine, and any new structures (or lack there of) that you are trying to build your daily life on.</div>
<div>Address how you are doing without the structure of school.&nbsp; How disciplined are you at school work and other tasks?</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>We are going to revisit my new routine a few times, so when you write your VO make sure you tell us how many days we are into the school closure.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>You do not need to send me anything right now!&nbsp; Those who emailed me (Gio, etc...) their day 1 work, thank you for being on top of it.&nbsp; But just keep organized at home.&nbsp; Record and write now, we can edit and turn in later.</strong></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Expect a video update this week with some skills.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Email if you are unclear or just having a hard time (with my class or in general).</div><br>

<p>Theme:&nbsp; Journey from one place to another-&nbsp; your actor will go from one place to another outside.</p>
<p>Shot list:</p>
<p>Shot 1:&nbsp; Locked Down Full, Medium, or Close Up ... set the mood.</p>
<p>Shot 2:&nbsp; Pan or Tilt (one or the other… pan is horizontal move, tilt is vertical) start the actor's journey</p>

<p>ALSO&gt;&gt;&gt; BE SUPER CAREFUL AND PLAN YOUR ROUTE SO THAT YOU DON’T TRIP OVER A BENCH OR ANYTHING ELSE WHEN YOU OPERATE THE CAMERA.</p>
<p>Shot 4: &nbsp;Pan or Tilt (one or the other… pan is horizontal move, tilt is vertical) bring them in to stop</p>
<p>Shot 5:&nbsp; Locked Down Full, Medium, or Close Up to close out the journey</p>
<div><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif">This assignment is a quick jam.&nbsp; Plan it, shoot it, and edit it.&nbsp; Keep it simple,&nbsp; keep your camera moves clean and clear. You will have 10 minutes to wrap it up on Monday.&nbsp; Work with a partner, and give us a full movement.</span></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif">*****REMEMBER TO SET YOUR IPHONE CAMERA FORMAT TO MOST COMPATIBLE TO AVOID FLICKER******&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></div>

<div>Our next assignment will focus on motion and continuity editing.&nbsp; On Friday we will talk through a series of shots and think through creative ways to capture the story of movement.&nbsp; Please watch the following two videos on tracking shots.&nbsp; There are so many good resources on youtube and vimeo for filmmakers!&nbsp; We will talk about some good quality channels as well as some other high quality training resources you should know about.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Studio Binder makes some really good instructional videos.&nbsp; But remember, it is a long for add for their shot comp/storyboard software.&nbsp; With that said, watch the video below.&nbsp; It gives a great overview on why we move the camera:</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbnYBmqBbKA" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbnYBmqBbKA</a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Now that you are thinking about why (and what the basic moves are) we move a camera, lets focus on the tracking shot.&nbsp; Our next assignment is focused on motion as story, using the tracking shot as a backbone.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkVYpzyJvG8" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkVYpzyJvG8</a></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Ok.... lots to understand.... blocking is an advanced idea, but if you have time today round it out with this video on how to set your character into a scene.... this is advanced but I think you all can start to think more about it.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>

<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>We will see you tomorrow.&nbsp; Please watch these videos in preparation.</div>

									<div>30/30 Project:</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Take 30 photos that document 30 minutes of time.&nbsp; This should not be POV.&nbsp; Think cinematically.&nbsp;</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Use a variety of shot types but remember that the core of film work is&nbsp;<strong>Medium Shot</strong> and tighter.&nbsp; Make sure you use&nbsp;<strong>Establishing Shots&nbsp;</strong>to initially establish location, and then again if you change location.&nbsp; Think frame.&nbsp; Show us the most important act/action/emotion in each frame.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>It is not 1 shot / minute, but rather cover 30 minutes of time.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Set your camera to 16:9 if you can so that you don't have to worry about crops.&nbsp; If not, crop to 16:9 or if you want to 2.35:1</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>There will be an indesign template and we will also put these into a premiere timeline.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div><br>
