Anything Goes

Anything Goes
The Spring musical for 2021 will be ANYTHING GOES.

The S. S. American is sailing between New York and England with a comically colorful assemblage of passengers: Reno Sweeney, a popular nightclub singer and former evangelist, her pal Billy Crocker, a lovelorn Wall Street broker who has come aboard to try to win the favor of his beloved Hope Harcourt (who is engaged to another passenger, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh), and a second-rate conman named Moonface Martin, aka “Public Enemy #13.” Song, dance, and farcical antics ensue as Reno and Moonface try to help Billy win the love of his life.

- Grade and previous involvement may be a factor in selection if multiple performers are determined to be equally qualified for a particular role.

- Students are asked which roles/jobs they would especially like to be considered, however the production team reserves the right to place a performer/technician in the role that best suits them and best serves the play.

-  The production team discusses and provides input on casting, but the Director takes final responsibility for all selections.

- In addition to skill set, for some acting roles a students' "look" (not looks) - i.e. relative height of paired character - may matter.

- Cast and Crew members are asked to refrain from from discussing the cast on social media for 48 hours after the lists have posted. Students are asked not to create social media sites or groups, etc. for the production. Students are cautioned about social media backlash and hallway demeanor when the list is posted.

- The guiding principle of all creative decisions made is to "serve the production."

- While casting is based on the audition and callbacks, the production team does take into consideration previous experience or classroom work and performances due to many of the students being seen by the director five days/ week in class.

- If an auditioner misses the callback or a technician misses the interviews, they may not be considered for any roles that are determined through these processes.

- If students have consistent attendance issues with their classes, they may not be considered for a role on a production.

- Students must be dressed appropriately for all rehearsals and calls. Appropriate attire for rehearsals and work days include; close-toed shoes, no excessively loose or baggy clothing, shorts/pants - no skirts or dresses; clothes that one doesn't mind getting dirty. Arriving to a call without appropriate attire will result in an unexcused absence.

- Issues with tardiness, defiance or willful inactivity (laziness) may result in dismissal from cast or stage crew.

- Audition feedback is provided to students who request it, no sooner than 72 hours after the cast list posted and no later than two weeks later. Only their own audition is discussed, not another student's. Discussion topics could include student strengths and weaknesses, and technique concerns. There will be no defending of choices made, and it is important to understand that the only answer is, "someone else was just better than you for this role."

- Any parent voicemails or emails expressing their disappointment in casting or seeking discussion about the audition process will not be responded to.

Weekly schedules, cast & crew information and supporting documents are all available to cast members via Microsoft Teams.
