Laura K. Benson Memorial Scholarship
PVPHS Drama Boosters is pleased to invite applications for the 21st annual Laura K. Benson Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is a one-time award of up to $1,500.
Scholarship applications should either be delivered in person to Mrs. Shafer in the PVPHS College Career Center or emailed to Mrs. Shafer at: [email protected] by Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Mrs.Shafer will reply to your email to confirm receipt. If you do not hear from Mrs. Shafer by the due date, please leave a message for her on Teams.
1. Scholarship Requirements:
a. Be a senior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School
b. Have a declared theater or film-related major for college
2. Qualifications that will be considered:
a. Grade point average (weighted 9th – 12th grades)
b. Level and depth of commitment to theater at PVPHS. Include a resume of drama activities (including any officer positions in Drama Club and International Thespian Society) and honors for 9th – 12th grades.
c. Level and depth of commitment to theater outside of PVPHS
d. Essay about
(1) what made you decide to pursue drama,
(2) what your career goals are, and
(3) what would you like to be doing in ten years. The essay should be no longer than one page, double-spaced, 12 point font.
3. Present this information on four separate pages:
a. Name, address, email address, phone number, declared college major, and one of the following: (1) college(s) you have been accepted to and will likely attend or (2) college(s) you have applied to and your preferred school to attend.
b. PVPHS resume (see description in Items 2[a] and 2[b] above). Please note that, in addition to PVPHS theater activities, you may include (but are not required to include) other PVPHS activities and honors.
c. Extracurricular resume (see description in Item 2[c] above). Please note that, in addition to non-PVPHS theater activities, you may include (but are not required to include) other non-PVPHS activities (such as volunteer work and other jobs) and honors.
d. Essay (see description in Item 2[d] above)
