Welcome to Palos Verdes Peninsula High School’s Drama Department.
Peninsula Drama has long established itself as one of the premiere co-curricular and extra-curricular high school theatre department’s in Southern California. A department deep in tradition and success. Our reputation is built from the fact that we have many diverse opportunities for our students to become involved and excel. Between courses, productions, our Drama Club, improv teams, our Thespian Honor Society Troupe and our Drama Boosters, we have something for everyone here at Peninsula Drama.
What does it mean to be a member of this Drama Department?
Though we have used many different mottos over the years, including “Part of the PAC, Part of the Ship” “Work Hard, Be Nice” the true belief lies in our secondary logo: Confidence, Community & Collaboration
This leads directly to our secondary motto of: Pride. Artistry. Creativity
CONFIDENCE – Learning to trust yourself, even when faced with failure. We learn to succeed and fail with confidence here in our program, for that is the only way to truly grow.
COMMUNITY – Though it is easy to lose sight of, we are a community here. No one in this department works alone. We all rely on each other to continue our collective growth as artists and people.
COLLABORATION – The performing arts are a collaborative artform. A performance requires two things: A performance and an audience to experience that. While that may require only two people, in reality there are many more than that. Our productions may have as few as four cast members, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t 20+ other people working behind the scenes, all working together to share a story and create the best possible experience for each and every one of our audience members. This is important to note, because almost no matter what our students end up doing in the future, they are not going to be working alone. Outside of the arts, even, collaboration is key. Your ability to work with others will prepare you for success, in any walk of life.
PRIDE – A group of Panthers and a piece of our school’s Expected Schoolwide Learning Results, this has been a part of Peninsula Drama’s ethos since before the school plastered it on posters. The drive behind all that we do, successful or not is Pride. At the end of each day, ask yourself, are you Proud of yourself. Can you take Pride in your work today? How you carried yourself? How you interacted with others?
ARTISTRY – Take a risk. Tell your story.
CREATIVITY – Create SOMETHING every day. Work towards creating something. This lives hand-in-hand with Artistry.
