Make sure LT1A Guided Instruction is completed.
Things to remember, add to your notes:
1st shell - Max 2 electrons
2nd shell - Max of 8 electrons
3rd shell - Max of 18 electrons ONLY if there is a 4th shell.
If the 3rd shell is the highest (valence) shell, Max of 8 electrons.
To determine the number of electrons in the Valence Shell:
1. Never more than 8
2. Subtract the electrons in the lower shells, what is left?
3. ONLY draw the Valence (no more than 8) in a Lewis Structure. No circles. Pair them up if more than 4 for easier counting.
Complete Warm-up (1st one on 6B):
Particle Charge Mass Location in atom
proton 1. 4. 7
electron 2. 5. 8
Neutron 3. 6. 9.
Review names on symbols on the Periodic Table.
