This essay is from the 2014 AP Language test. It is a synthesis essay similar to a DBQ or SAT persuasion essay. Read the instructions carefully--more than once. You need a clear position and must support it using ONLY the attached sources. In class, I would give you 20 minutes to review the sources, and then give you 55 minutes to write the following day. (The AP test would give you 20 + 40 minutes) I have attached the 9 point rubric. I will score using column 2 (I usually use column 3, but since we are not in class I figured it should be more lenient). Do not spend more than 90 minutes on this. Submit to turnitin.com. These are the quote pages for the Just Mercy essay if you choose to read the ADULT version. The posted assignment has page numbers for the YOUNG ADULT version which is a bit shorter. The essay instructions are the same except the page numbers and a bit of vocabulary are different depending on which version you use.
