PE 1 (Period 1)

Course Description

Greetings P.E. Students,
 
This is Coach Daley writing to say hello and update you about my class assignments for the final quarter of the school year. But most importantly, I want to say that I hope you are all staying as healthy and active as possible during the stay-at-home orders. I miss you all very much and hope to see you at school soon.
 
It is my hope that you all are having success in the new online platforms Peninsula is using for all your classes. I know it can be confusing, annoying and stressful. With that in mind I did not want to overwhelm any of you with early assignments for P.E. but I feel like enough time has passed now for you to be able to start concentrating on taking care of your bodies and minds once again.
 
Remember that physical activity helps with almost every aspect of your life. It can ease stress, help create healthy sleeping patterns, improve your muscle strength, help your cardiovascular system work more efficiently, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, prevent disease, and create a sense of overall well-being.
 
I would like to reiterate what Principal Kuykendall wrote in yesterday's Principal Update: everyone is dealing with this current reality differently and that is okay! I agree with Dr. K that it is very important to allow us all to not be perfect during these unprecedented times and to seek the good in all situations. I hope you can complete the assignments detailed below for my class. If you are having any issues completing them or need help please reach out to me. I am here for you.
 
Assignments for my classes: Over the next 7 weeks I need you to keep track of your physical activity in one or two ways (or both). You can use the Fitness Log that I have attached, and/or you can use TikToK. If you use the fitness logs, there will be a total of 3 logs due, each log will cover 2 weeks. The following days will be the span of your logs moving forward.  Logs will be due on the date in  BOLD. If you are using TikToK you will need to Duet or Tag me in your TikTok so I can see that you completed a workout. Or you can just write down on your fitness log that you did the workout that I posted. My TikTok account goes live TODAY and will have a few workout ideas already published. Look for many more workouts on my TikTok in the days and weeks to come. You do not have to do the exercises that I have published but they are there to make it super easy for you to get (and stay) active. Feel free to create your own TikToks and tag me in them for credit! Anything active counts!! My account name is @coachdaley

Each Log is worth 40pts
Each TikTok is worth 20pts
Maximum Points for Quarter 4 = 200. You will be given 80pts to start (your welcome!), so there are 120pts possible during the next 6 weeks. Want to crush a bunch of TikToks? Cool! Each one is worth 20pts! Want to wait to email me a fitness log on each due date? Great! Want to do a combination of the two? Amazing! Totally up to you. I really look forward to seeing all the creative ways you all are staying active during the stay-at-home order.
 
If you are doing the log you need to have recorded 200 minutes of activity per week (400 minutes per log) and a personal reflection. Reflections are important to help you realize what exercises work/don't work for your personal fitness journey.  Recreational Activities count of course, yard work and any strenuous work you may do throughout the day. And don't forget about yoga! We were doing yoga every Friday during the year so hopefully you remember some poses. Let me know if you want some examples of some great yoga to follow (Yoga is a great physical and mental health activity).
 
Lastly the accountability piece is important. Make sure your Log is signed by your Parent or Guardian or it is NOT VALID, NO EXEMPTIONS.
 
There is an attached EXAMPLE fitness log. Please review so you turn in acceptable logs.
