Learning about RESPECT

Just before spring break some of our Panther students and staff organized a school-wide week long event focused on inclusion and celebrating our similarities and differences. There were activities held at lunch over multiple days and finally a culminating event where hundreds of students from both PVHS and PVPHS participated in our first ever Special Olympics Unified Track Meet.

Here are just a few images of the track meet and that week's events.

As a principal of this school I get to see and be involved in many special events and celebrations, but this one was different.  To see the faces of all the students involved and know that this one event would have a lasting impact on every single individual was incredibly powerful.

A huge thank you to the students and staff that made this happen, specifically Mrs. Fujinaga, Mr. Daley and the students in his PLUS class , and Mrs. Decasas.

As a school we pride ourselves on the accomplishments of our students and staff.  Those accomplishments often come in the form of awards, pass rates, and test scores.  As fantastic as all of those accolades are, I think an event like this is just if not more important.  When our students and staff can show compassion, care, and true joy for each other I think we have truly done our job to help our students understand the importance of what really matters.

It is events like this one that truly define what a school believes in.  I am so proud  our our panther community and how they came together to celebrate one another.
