ABOUT OUR TEAM
We want to welcome you to our program! Our Boys’ Water Polo Program competes in the Bay League against some of the top teams in Southern California. Established in 1991, Peninsula High School is not only considered one of the best high schools in California (#7), but also nationally ranked high school (#87) as well according to the Niche.

Our program has a tradition of building champions of character in which our student athletes, coaches, and parents work hard to continue the tradition. Our student athletes not only learn the fundamentals of water polo, but they also learn how to apply them in their lives. We instill values of character, respect, teamwork, discipline, ownership, and sportsmanship. We win with class and lose with dignity. We emphasize that this is a short bus ride that only lasts for four seasons. Own up how your bus ride will look like for four years of high school. Make it memorable and finish the ride with no regrets.

We currently have three levels offered: Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Frosh Soph. Tryouts are normally held during summer and pre-season to provide our student athletes a chance to showcase their skills to coaches.

Our alumni in Peninsula High School has also gone to play collegiate water polo at D1, D2, D3, and NAIA levels as well. Just to name a few notable alumni:
  • Merrill Moses '95, the current Associate Head Coach of Men’s Water Polo at Pepperdine University, was the starting goalkeeper for the Men’s National Team in 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics. He was also a starting goalkeeper for Pepperdine University (1995-1999) and helped lead Pepperdine the 1997 NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship and was named a Conference Player of the Year.
  • Travis Larsen '11 competed for the Pomona Pitzer Sagehens and was named to the SCIAC All- Academic team during the 2011-2015 seasons
  • James Blackwood '12, competed at Caltech and was ranked #10 in SCIAC in goals per game (1.69) in 2015.
