Pt 2 of the Graphic Design After Effects project

alright so where we stopped off last video was that I'd imported all of the imported this cutter for demo that's my illustrator file into after effects and it brought a composite and it brought in all of the layers in this folder okay so again we're in After Effects we have our illustrator file brought into our project window you can see this I got at the top of the project window got this whole thing that says do it right here I'll talk about that most of you should have this installed on your machine but it other it won't say that up here it should just a project for you remember all these different spaces have tabs potentially to them that we can use to cycle through different things okay so do it by the way if you want to find it it's under window if you go to the very you should see this D U G R & D u i k this is a scripted a very powerful pre-scripted program that makes using after effects for the kind of stuff we do you a lot easier I'm in Eugene the lair manager that will probably cover next year animation because it's really helpful again like I said in the previous video you could have a mass of number of layers in here and you may need to handle this okay so I will be using do it little bit today I'll show you how I would use it and I would show you how I can do everything without using it but it's super helpful You may wish to bring this up I tend to dock it behind the project window on that way I can get out it allows me to do things manage keyframes and stuff like that really powerfully okay so let me close well actually won't close it I'll leave it up for right now let's go ahead and make a new composition so I'm going to go ahead and click on my new comp thing by the way if I hold down that where I press the tilde key as I hover over any one of these individual windows and remember that after effects treats them all with different Windows brings up a full screen version of that window super helpful if I have lots of things to deal with Okay so let's go ahead and get a new comp button again I'm using this HDTV 1080 24 preset 1920 1080 like for this one 35 seconds 40 seconds is going to be my full Master comp but in this case I only would like 35 background color will default to Black I'm using white I'd suggest you use white as well clicking their select white and then I'm going to give this a name right now because that's the best thing to do and let's call this SR8 so this is my Mein Kampf but it's not faster, so I want to I want to come up with a nomenclature that works okay I'm going to go ahead right away and set my right here in my composition window up that this too fast rap that's going to help speed up this process okay Mein Kampf it's empty right the very first thing I need to do is go ahead and go into my Lair stock here and I'm going to grab my Skype this is my back rabbit click and hold bring it down in and there we go we have a sky in the composition here okay by the way on the right hand side depending on which view so I'm in the default view right now because I've messed around with it a little bit but standard will give you the same thing you don't need your libraries I have color themes in my library is because I have I'm using an actual version of cloud here at home sub my eye of the library's up that you don't need that you do want the rest of these your preview is right here this is when I hit the spacebar this is sort of the full version of your preview window you'll we make it that later video I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible I'm in audio when we get to that so on and so forth info but I like this expand collapse view here that keeps it come packed and ready to go so like I said let's go and save this and save it into the same folder remember I'm in my Alpha graphic design demo folder this is the same place I have my illustrator file and all that so we'll call this sv2 because actually that's not do not yell at me too because again I want to keep organized here okay so this is my main cop right not my master will talk about the master later video but this is my name, and I want to start to play around with this okay so previous project I'm going to do this a little bit differently than the previous project in the previous project I had this concept of the showing up in the water and all that sort of stuff let's do this one a little bit differently let's go ahead and start here with the background let's go ahead and grab that big now I can also do this as a text layer rent so either way remember that this layer scap sack is top to bottom so I need to put it in the right spot no a couple things that we talked let me go and make another comp here and I'm going to make this real short I want to show you a couple key things Okay so call this put this into folder some to move out of the folder demo comp pet sub chips up here selection tool hand tool aka the move tool Zoom tool rotation tool w we need that unified camera don't worry about that that's for 3D layers this one Pan behind super important this moves are layer Anchor Point exceptionally important thing this will default to the pen tool for you guys may need that will use a convert protect tool text tool I won't be using that for the Clone stamp for the Eraser wheel so won't be using the rotobrush other than the super awesome and puppet pins we're not going to get to that because that's beginning to be too much okay you're going to definitely use vertex definitely needs pain behind and you definitely need use selection as well as to text tool let me draw a shape Kalamazoo middle of it here on my window okay you can see that when I did in my this is a blank, play demo comp I got to shape layer so I will call the shape layer rectangle and you can see that its contents has one rectangle for the sake of simplicity whenever you make shapes in After Effects and you may make some for this project if it's totally up to you only one shape Pearl air makes your life a lot easier because then you don't have to animate in the contents you can animate simply at the transform level right so in a layer it's the transforms that for this project we're going to use to animate so anything that has a stopwatch is animatable you want to use your transforms about what we need to be aware of for all of the stuff is where Anchor Point is the Anchor Point for the layer defaults to the center of the layer depending on where your object is it may not be in the center of your object right sup remember that when we do things like rotate that sings rotate around things also scale around write the location about Anchor Point so let's say for example but I would like to let me bring up by skill keyframe so let's say I want to scale a couple that is the proportions are constrained you may or may not want to mess with this but for this exam I'm going to do this I'm going to grab my pain behind tool why now what I'm going to say is going to bring it right down here to the middle and the bottom and they want to zoom in and be real precise here middle bottom hey so now what I can do is make this thing appear to grow from the bottom right so if I wanted something to pop up like this I would go ahead and animate that with the anchor points at at the bottom sake of Simplicity it's quite difficult to move anchor points around in objects we can animate the location of the Anchor Point but generally we bring in a new iteration of the object line it up and then move the Anchor Point when we want the Anchor Point to move so just as a heads up alright so let me recap all the scale here so again right things grow out of rotate around move from The Anchor Point the question always comes up how do I sing we got the Anchor Point to the center of my object that's a great default spot you could try to drag it there it's always a little hard to get it precisely in the center right or we can go ahead and right click on the auto go to transform go to Center are content to this is one of those crazy bolt to man whatever that up arrow thing is I don't even know what that is shortcuts probably something that often times people tend to who animated lot shortcut this something real simple but not the faults that you can do that other by right-clicking or you can go to say excuse me I layer transform Center acre point in their content and that's a good way to default fix a heads up on that that anything I want to do in fact if I move this stuff I go down here and I hit the P4 position and I and I with my move tool move to hear keyframe this move it move the timeline long-hair real quickly and move it you'll see that it's it's the Anchor Point that is the home of those things for textual so this is a position transform it moves in 1 second from one spot to another gay position transform member that keyframing occurs on the timeline in space this keeper simply tells where this position is this keyframe contains this other position moves in a linear fashion between the two we can see that in the graph editor right that we just simply in a linear fashion between to keep Rams armor those things those positions this is a n n so the convert vertex to allows us to give this motion path we click on the Anchor Point or vertex it gives us a handle right light are bezier handles we could do this on both in this allows us to give our motion path a curve to it so that's that all right now we're back so out of our demo, hopefully that's all clear to you guys and you'll see me do some of the stuff here but again I'm not going to go through this full complete crazy project I'm just going to show you a couple different things then we'll look at the other project will finish the other project I need to go from the main to the master okay so again I'm in I'm in a lightweight version of my full for project I'm just going to show you a few different things here and then we will go ahead and cut you guys lose to try this be just enough is the right amount of knowledge for this one and you can dig around a little bit and after effects although it's going to probably confused alright so here's my  and you can see that my layers size is kind of big year I could have actually done this a little bit differently but whatever not a big deal just makes a little bit more on wildy but okay let's say okay so so what I want to do here now is go ahead and start this composition I remember that I said I like to change colors and on my lair I know what's going on I'm going to make this dark green it's my background it's there the whole time maybe maybe I could even have my background stayed in or something like that but but that's really up to you right so for transparency right is a good way opacity things in or out right okay so us right so let's bring this in now I want this thing to go ahead and let's it let's actually opacity this so let's go ahead and take this and let's weird 0 seconds were going to go tea for transparency or opacity we're going to turn on our keyframe right so that's going to drop a keyframe and it's going to be at zero for Centier know there are a couple different types of keyframes this is linear there's an easy frame it looks like an hourglass and then we have a couple of other types let's go ahead and just focus though on making this really simply so let's say that I want this as to show up at 2 seconds okay I have a couple different choices here I can opacity this thing in so maybe I started 0% opacity I go to two seconds and then I bring it to you a hundred percent right so that's going to opacity in cool but let's say that I want to listen to side that comes too fast okay so I can just move this right in the top so now that's going to go in a little bit more slowly to start till two seconds I can move the start keyframe over or what I can also do is that I can bring in point of my composition to two seconds that I know that that's something I want to do and I may even bring the out Point here in a little bit so now it starts at 2 seconds and stayed there until about 4 seconds right right so I can move this whole thing around in my space in position accordingly remember I can see not right I've got that Pops in I've got it coming in about 2 seconds and that's pretty good right there now let's go ahead and look at this and say well using doesn't really do much capacity at least not in our case so we're not going to worry about it there so let's go ahead and also have the same kind of fly-in as it as it opacities in so we'll started 2 seconds go ahead and open the sub so you can see what I'm getting me so I'm going to go here to my transformed it'll be close you open it up and then we'll go to position okay I can't see where it is right right now so would it one of the things I here is why I actually need to come in so I can see its bounding box right here and so what I'm going to do here is go ahead and let's actually turn off that a passive let's make our opacity hundred percent so let's go ahead and right click transform Center anchor-point contact just give me a little bit more okay so this is being kind of fun and this happens sometimes so what I'm going to do is use the Pan behind tool in movie Dear what happened was when I imported this this should have come in the right way but for some reason it kept all my layers large not a big deal not we want to worry about but you'll notice in my other composition imported the same way by the way that my layers appear to be much smaller don't worry about it if this happens to you not a big deal okay so let's get this thing to fly in so I've got the Cedar Point set it up in the  I just like that because it allows me to know where that thing is once I move it off stage here so let's get this thing to fly and it's off stage we want to keyframe our position then we're going to go into how to fly in really quick maybe a second and a half if I zoom in I can see that I am at 3 seconds 12 frames that's one and a half seconds let's move it to here KOA of my frame spacing is cuz there's a little Yorkie frame even I'm going to zoom out enough that I can see both keyframes I'm going to drag to select them both I'm going to right click on them I'm going to go to keyframe assistant and I will alright so what's going to happen if it's going to fly in quickly then it so easy and says he's into your final position so start off real quick and and then start to slow down as you come in so let's go ahead and take a look it looks pretty good if we look at do it for example here we have we can see that we have different keep rims this one is our standard linear this is our he's hour or two that he's in tears he's out he's as you out of your first position right so if I reverse these so the other way around so in this case it he's out which means it starts slow and speeds up let's go to linear here's a linear one let's let's just live here here's flea East so that he's out and in using out and in Lebanese into our position here like this again this is all stuff that do it make easier you want to probably pull that up because it helps out so that's not next alright so we've got this thing we got it flying in let's talk about bringing in some other stuff here okay for example zoom in zoom out here is for a second okay let's talk about the sailboat so I use it as a fully structured entity okay and the other composition and the way I did that is i k e man and I made a new car and I let me go in here so I can do this a couple different ways I can make a new cop sorry I do that folder need this one how to make a new cop call out sailboat or whatever and I can take all the layers of my sailboat so Topsail I don't need my seat front or back don't need my template don't need the address router Mast Mansell whole head so extra one extra too I don't need Kevin top and I can bring this into this cop Let There we go it's all built up and I'm going to go ahead and save now I've got a pre-con okay basically so the other way I can do that is I can go into my cutter demo and I can select all of the things that I want and I could right click and I can pre compose those does the same thing it allows me to pull those doesn't make another composition this is a great thing when you're in a comp and you realize like man this thing is just too complex it's taking up too much of my comp and I want to play with this individually so right so. that's a way to isolate layers precomposed them there's tons of extra stuff we can do with three cops that we're not going to get into right now like looping and stuff like that so now I've got so my sailboat I've got my main console to get out of this year so close this up close this up real quick so I got my main cop here and I've got my at flies in and then maybe I want that sailboat to fly in bit by bit by so let's say I wanted my my sailboat to just kind of like well I can actually do this in my other, but let's say I wanted to use the sailboat and I wanted to appear I simply grab that sailboat comp bring it in it's going to populate so I can do that correctly it's going to populate my sitting here okay now remember this cop is only a couple seconds long right here so I may need to go up here right-click composition settings and extend this longer because I need it to be least the leg that I want to use okay there. get out in there so here's my 35 second, if I need it cost of Alta Brown in the timeline okay there we go so I've got this and maybe I want this to and I wanted to drop in so I'll have it appear will but it will go open it up open up transforms go to the position bring it up here you can keep playing backwards by the way okay so let me actually show you this let's say I say I know that I want my sailboat to end up here right and so what I would do is I would come in to my in point wherever I want that to show up there right let's say 6 seconds right and have it to send really slowly I would go ahead and turn on my key framing now I can go back to the beginning of my comp rabbit move it up it's going to go ahead and just send in like that alright so that works okay but what if I wanted this thing to come in all in into the Parts cuz that was my original concept okay I can either do that in my calm or I can pre compose that right to make it a little bit simpler so let me show you that solution cuz it's the same thing right so let's say how much the whole the fly in the cabin top in the Mauston all that stuff I can do that in this cop but remember back to our other project is pretty complex maybe I don't want to populate my layers sack with all that stuff so when I'm going to do here let me turn off all the keyframing here we don't need it is let me go into this comp here's my sailboat comp okay and we have this 35-second composition now when you extend a composition after you've made it you may have to extend the Persistence of your layers in that comp so all the way out all right so let's go ahead and let's start with the couldn't start with the hall so I've got the hall it is right here I'm going to go ahead and let's set up a parent relationship if I grab the whole right now it's going to move separately from the rest of the stuff I'd like the rudder to stick to that I made them separately I don't know for the sake of it maybe it maybe I could fly in separately but for the sake of this demo and to show you parenting to go find out here it is the rudder I can grab the rudder pick whip your grab it down parents into the Hall you can also do that with the drop-down menu right so I could say none go back in parent it to the hall okay so now if I grab the whole and move it the writer is going to be mom said whether it's actually for the sake of this right now because I don't want to do a ton of Animation I think you guys get the point here let's good parent the bowsprit as well so pick whip bowsprit to here so now what I'm going to do is I'm actually going to take the top sales of the sale let's go sale sale current sales and let's take their in point and move it in a bit let's take there weather out point add have to get out there cuz I'm going to take her out point in a little bit as well but so they're in point is going to be maybe like let's go to like here just for right now for 5 seconds something like that okay so what I'd like to have happened first and let's actually take the now let's take all the stuff that's in the the mask the mask is made of a couple different parts here so I have my mast Sonic get those two things and I'll move those in a little bit I'm doing this for reference right so let me take these two and let's make them blue and let's take the lips like this scam using command to select non-contiguous things let's make these all orange just so I know what they are the rudder and the hall will keep the same color let's make the cabin top yellow Red by the way cuz that's the default for a couple of different things and then let's go ahead and make this oops that's not what I want the bowsprit is part of the whole okay so we're good we've got this all organized right so let's make the whole Hot Springs opposition keyframe let's take it off frame up here the cabin top we're going to go ahead and let's move on let's see here cabin top we need to deal with okay so I'm going to keep her in the position of the whole right now it's off frame the cabin top I don't want here either so I'm going to go select that and move its out point up I'm just doing this I'm moving these here because I want to know how I want to animate them okay let's let's have this drop-in I know I wanted to take I want this all to happen pretty quick so I want us to take about a second it's going to come down to huh. Do that I need to grab the whole and move it down there we go so it comes down what's up come down here okay let's go ahead and take those and right-click Eazy-E's makes it a little easier alright so those are used and that's good now what I want to do is take the right click keyframe assistant I'm going to go she's Mickey print bowlocity and let's make this 66 or so percent 66 okay. Looks good and that's going to give me what I want yet alright so that comes down here then let's go ahead and take the Mast but here and bring it in to about there I need to talk Kevin top text Calvin tops there I'm going to have the cabin top let's have the cabin top pop up so let's go pee for position keyframe it looks a bit slow up in the position where does it go go somewhere about there that so I didn't move my plant right so I made a mistake there something to bring it back down again then we're going to go into here I'm going to have it go what's have it take about a second it's going to come up like this something like that cool that works but drops in Cabin top comes up Mast it let's do it let's do it looks like the mast and let's go ahead and I need to bring it in point in here let's take the mass now put it in position somewhere here the way the mass needs to go the rest of this to do this tablet properly scaled or whatever right we may need to move this whole thing down a little bit we do well whatever deal with that later the Mast is going to be here let's take the Pan behind tool for why why can't I animate correctly I'm going to throw this down at the bottom of the mast for the mouse you'll see why in a second where do a scale animation here I am going to have the I'm going to take the scale and I'm going to decouple them right like that and then I'm going to go ahead and shrink the Masters 0 like this actually let me keep them couple that look better will just have the mask grow like this no I'll decouple it show you guys how it looks so let's do go to zero by the way this is called scrubbing right I can change the numbers if I hold down the command key at this isn't that so weird a macro scrub your numbers really quickly if I hold down command key I go to micro scrub and that way I can get things really quickly zero cool. So keep running it then let's go ahead and go up a second this I want this all to happen fairly quickly this is going to go to 100 if you're an animation will be playing around with this a lot later because we want something called overshoot to happen to make it seem more lifelike but for graphic design purposes does a slick enough now rated point at my boom where's my boom got so it should be the other blue thing and it should be right there okay so let's take my move my selection tool let's move the in point here for the boom and short closing a couple of these other things up can you do when you click on a layer brings up your keyframes and it really compressed web the boom same thing maybe I'll have the boom opacity in really quickly here so we'll go so where is the what are you hiding somewhere please set the boom I need to use one of the views the sales and the Mainsail place the men at the wrong one because one time I need to move this into place so I can see what goes it's come down a little bit again I don't want to belabor this too much I may go ahead and jump ahead a little bit here for the sake of this thing so again this is made mainly what I wanted to show you guys before we move on to the next video is on Place let's see where my main cell go here turn it back on yeah that works good enough for the StubHub okay so boom let's go opacity 0 to keyframe opacity goes to zero move in maybe three-quarters of a second City goes to a hundred and we're on our way here let's have the let's have all the sales fly in so what will do we will set them up first so I will go ahead and take the sales and let's make sure they're all visible and let's put them in the correct position this goes here now I've cut the top of the boat off and that's not so awesome but I'm going to show you how I may need to fix that in a second get all of this stuff May overload but will work alright so here's all of this I'm working pretty quickly now I'm not really exceptionally worried about Larry Curry points in all that the sales are all lined up what I'm going to know do is parent Topsail which is that small triangle in the head sail to the that's not what I meant but let's do the mall to the Mainsail that way I only have to animate the Mainsail I'm going to have them work largely the same way headsail goes to Mainsail okay cool got it okay so let's take this let's go ahead and keep praying the position here and let's start it off frame grab the key frame so let's go ahead and start off frame here keyframe it come in babe 2nd and 1/2 bring it in put it in the right spot right there goes roughly is sort of there that's cool that'll work okay and we can use that if we want to tell you do it do it do it stop you play come in and you go let's use that in like this right and what did not work the guy got to select it use it in okay great cook so everything the boat happens the way I wanted to happen so except somehow I've lost my boat full again so let's go back oh I know what to so okay so let's start here remember I want my boat to fall into place here so let's go ahead and bring our thing up it's up again this is a situation where I want to know I know I know that the position of my boat is correct right now I don't want to mess with that so I'm going to come back here and I'm going to drop a keyframe guess I'm going to turn on my keep raving for position I must have turned that off somehow I'm going to go back in time move it up this way I already know where I want this to be right so okay so Roxanne flies in okay let's save so now we did this in this precomposition basically right and we'll go back to our main cop so let's go ahead and start remain cop at the beginning here so we can see what we got going so we RS not coming in at the same time as our boat our boat does it's a little thing however I have not cluttered my composition right here it all happens in this sailboat free double click it takes me into it right here is my animation here we're simply using transform easing to do all this that's all you're going to do and I think what I'm going to do now is so we go to go to hear that so here's what we got so far and it's you should be getting a sense of how this project is going to go so we've done some transform animations I've showed you a couple different things let me just show you one other thing here and then we'll stop this video will go to video will actually dive in and show you a couple of different things that went on in our previous full composition and we'll wrap that up real quickly right I have this position keyframe right for my  is start it's not doesn't exist yet okay let's say I want that thing to shoot out again so let's come to 6 seconds or whatever okay 8 seconds so I'm at 8 seconds here and I say okay I want the  now to to leave State you at the at the bottom of our stage who writes it's going to drop off the bottom if I go over to 8 seconds and I go ahead and I move my  down with the position selected to have a problem right so what's going to happen here is it's going to it's going to start a mediately right go to start immediately after it hits its last keeper because keep Rams move from one to the next know there is something called a toggle hold keyframe a toggle hold keyframe is a square frame that shows up shows up as a square what it says hold the current information whatever it is position scale until the next keyframe appears then change abruptly I might do an explainer video for that but separately but let's not worry about that right now simply let's say I want the us to come in and then what I want to have happened here is so let's let's get rid of this keyframe over here I haven't selected I can delete it so it comes in and then what I do is I say okay I wanted to hold this position hold this position everything flies out of about 8 seconds what I'm going to do is come over here to the left of the stopwatch in the position you'll notice that there's a little how to remove remove key simply add a keyframe there right so what it's doing is adding keep right at the current position so we're in good shape then we're going to say come over a second I'll grab it will I get down and that's my problem so now flies and lies in hold position it's a linear change keep right but that's cool down off the bottom and we're done okay what's the other thing I want to show you now the last thing that we could talk about here is really quickly is let me just show you copying and pasting of keyframes right so one last sort of thing here I'm going to bring it back to my project window I'm going to go ahead and bring in a sealer so let me bring this in and let me turn off the visibility of everything else and we can just go to focus on this all right so last thing in this video I'd like to make this sort of move around right so what I'm going to do is what's the I know I have I want to I want this to sort of move for 30 seconds so keep and what I'm going to say here is I'd like you to start here I would like you to move down back maybe not that far and then move to the original t frame selected copy it command C come over so now I have and let me bring in my workspace now I have a loop right going up I wanted to smooth that out I would select all of those grab my convert for a text to a click on one of them it's make the Pav's up rounded now with handles that smooth smooth is a little bit so let's say want this to happen for my whole composition how can I deal with this okay I don't want to grab my first key Prime that's my starting point Rob. Because it existed Escape Rave right here also exists right here I needed to return to the same place to have this looping effect so I have these three keyframe command C to copy Vita paste now I'll grab this again I don't want to grab the first keyframe I don't need that that's just kind of my starting point copy right so let's grab all this year copy them now I can go ahead and paste this bigger Block in and it's quite quick for me to pay ski frames across the entirety of the 32nd comp there's other ways I would do this if my comp was longer than this bit and we just copy and paste so now what I've done is have taken something the entirety of this this thing that's so copy and paste keyframes over for repetitive motion and copy and paste paste larger walk subliminal. stop this video here now and then I'm going to start back in my other full composition hopefully this is a answer most of your questions I think I've covered kind of all of the basics here okay so let's go ahead and stop this I'll start with my other full compass can open up the the excuse me project the one you saw the video of will take a look at a couple things there and then we will go ahead and finish it up and render it out
