Ethics

Course Description

This class will primarily focus on medical ethics, but it will also touch upon political, business, and social ethics. The course is designed to encourage you to explore various ethical dilemmas in light of different religious, cultural, political, and personal influences. Through the use of case studies and both primary and secondary sources, you will not only explore the ethics of medical topics such as human experimentation, biotechnology, stem cell research, eugenics, and withdrawing/withholding medical treatment, but you will also explore political and social debacles that have come to the public’s attention. You will be encouraged to develop ethical reasoning skills, identify your own values, understand the societal impact of your decisions, and be aware of cultural, religious, and personal differences in others. Ethical decision-making models will be examined and tested.
