Today, you should be working on the assignments for the middle chapters (4-6) of The Great Gatsby.  I hope you are enjoying at least somewhat some of the awkwardness of Gatsby's attempts to rekindle his relationship with Daisy.  I know it takes a while, but now that they have been reunited, the conflict is about to get a lot more interesting.

 

Remember, if you have any questions or want to share any ideas, you may post to the discussion board on turnitin.com.  I check the board regularly and will be on the period 3 board at 11:00 today.

A couple of notes for today.

 

First, if you did not participate in the Socratic Discussion, please see the SOCRATIC DISCUSSION MAKEUP post that I put up yesterday.  It provides details about earning as many as 30 of the 50 points possible for that assignment.  

 

Second, you should be working on the assignment sheet for chapters 1-3 of The Great Gatsby.  You will find this on the ASSIGNMENTS page.  Please submit reading comprehension questions and analysis of quotations to turnitin.com by Sunday.

Yesterday, we completed the distance learning version of our Socratic Discussion.  I look forward to reading all of your interactions.

 

Moving forward, we are going to be reading a book that many of you will enjoy.  It is probably the most anticipated book of junior year.  It is...The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  

 

To prepare for this journey, I would like you all to complete two short tasks.  First, please bookmark the free ebook version of The Great Gatsby.  You do not need to use this version, but it is available to you.  Second, please watch a short video introduction to the book and some of its themes.  Links to the ebook and the video can be found on the assignments page of this website.  There is nothing to turn in for this assignment.  It is just meant to prepare you to read this beautiful work of American literature.
