Tuesday 4/28 Message

Good Morning.

I hope this morning finds you all happy and healthy.

We are getting close to the end of the Socratic Discussion Assignment. Please take some time today to look over the discussion board, create a post or two, and comment thoughtfully on the posts of some of your peers. Remember that the discussion board closes TOMORROW.

As always, email me if you have any questions. I hope you all have a great day.

Monday 4/27 Message

Good Morning.

I hope you all had a great weekend.

Your task for the first part of this week is to engage in the Socratic discussion on the turnitin.com discussion board.  We got off to a good start last week, but we have stalled since then.  Remember, the board will only be open until Wednesday, and this is an assignment that you can not make up.  PLEASE do not wait until the last minute.  I do not know how to fix the inevitable problems that arise when you try to sneak everything in 5 minutes before the window closes.

So, GET IN THERE TODAY.  Post some of your ideas.  Respond to your classmates.  Let's get this thing going.  I am excited to see what you think.

Have a great day.

Mr. Hall

Friday 4/24 Message

Happy Friday!!!

I hope you are all doing well.

Your mission for today is to get into the discussion board on turnitin.com.  Even if you are not ready to post your prepared analysis, you should check out what other people are writing and maybe even comment on some of their posts (that is part of your grade).  Remember, the discussion board will be open until next Wednesday.

Have a great weekend, everyone, and as always, email me if you have any questions.

Stay safe.

Mr. Hall

Thursday 4/23 Message

Good Morning,

I hope you are all happy and healthy!!!

Our Into the Wild Socratic Discussion board is open on turnitin.com.  Thank you to those of you who have already posted.  You should all visit the board multiple times to read your classmates' posts and to post your ideas and responses to them.  I hope you have some fun with this.

As always, email me if you have any questions.  I look forward to reading your contributions.

Also, I have posted the application for the English Honors Society on this website under assignments.  This, of course, is not an assignment, but if you are interested in applying, you have access to the application.  Good luck.

Have a great day.

Wednesday 4/22 Message

Good Morning!!!

I hope you all are getting some sleep.

I have posted the discussion board for the Socratic discussion.  When you sign in to our class on turnitin.com, go to the Discussion tab.  When you click that tab, you will see a link to the Socratic Discussion.  I have posted all 5 prompts, so please write your posts in the appropriate places.  Remember, you are meant to respond to others' posts as well.  It is one of the elements of the rubric.

I hope you take the time to read the other responses and let them inspire you.  You may reply to as many of them as you like.  The discussion board will remain open until next Wednesday, 4/29.  As always, email me if you have any questions.

Have a great day.

Tuesday 4/21 Message

Good Morning,

I hope you are all doing well today.

Tomorrow, I will open the message boards for the Socratic discussion, and they will remain open until next Wednesday.  Today, you should make sure that you understand the assignment, email me if you have any questions, and think about the responses that you will post on the message board.  Remember that you will be interacting with your classmates, responding to their posts as well as creating your own.  I am looking forward to reading your ideas.

Gather your thoughts and email me your questions.

Have a great day.

Monday 4/20 Message

Good Morning!!!

On Friday, I posted the assignment sheet for our Socratic discussion.  Please take a look at it today and email me if you have any questions.  I want to make sure that the logistics and expectations are clear before I open the discussion board on Wednesday.  Also, use the next two days to think about and prepare your responses.  I look forward to seeing your beautifully unique thoughts, insights, and ideas.

Have a great day!!!

Friday 4/17 Message

Happy Friday, Everyone!!!

I hope everything is progressing smoothly with your completion of the reading comprehension questions and quotation responses for part 2 (Ch.11 - Epilogue) of Into the Wild.  Remember that they are due to turnitin.com by midnight tonight.  Email me if you have any questions.

I am working on the finishing touches for the Socratic discussion assignment.  I am going to try to post it later today with a goal of completing the discussion between Monday and Friday of next week.  Look for the assignment sheet later today, or by Monday at the latest.

Have a great weekend.  Stay safe.

Thursday 4/16 Message

Good morning.

Well, if you go to the discussion board on turnitin.com today, you will see the lonely conversation that I had with myself.  That's OK.  The board will be open for the rest of the day.  If you have any thoughts or questions, feel free to post.  I will check them later.

I have posted the grades for Into the Wild part 1 reading comprehension questions and quotation responses on AERIES.  You can check them out and let me know if you have any questions.  Also, you can view your assignments on turnitin.com if you want to see if there are any comments.

The reading comprehension questions and quotation responses for chapter 11-Epilogue are due by midnight tomorrow, so keep working to get those finished and submitted.

I hope you all are doing well.  Stay healthy!!!

Wednesday 4/15 Message

Good Morning,

I hope you are all doing well.

My first announcement is that I am planning a live message session for tomorrow on turnitin.com.  Just hit the Discussion tab to join in.  I will be in period 2 from 9:00-9:20, period 3 from 9:20-9:40, and period 4 from 9:40-10:00.  We can share thoughts and ideas about Into the Wild.  Your participation is not mandatory, but I will encourage you to check it out.  My plan is to use this forum for our Socratic discussion next week.

Additionally, I hope you are all progressing with your work on the reading comprehension questions and quotation responses for Into the Wild chapter 11-Epilogue.  They are due to turnitin.com by Friday at midnight.

Look for the Socratic discussion assignment before the end of the week.

Stay safe,

Mr. Hall

Tuesday 4/14 Message

Good Morning,

I have a couple of notes to share this morning.

First, many of you noticed that we had a vocabulary quiz scheduled for yesterday.  This quiz was scheduled when we were on track to return to school on April 6th.  Now that we will be distance learning for the foreseeable future, we will not be having any vocabulary quizzes.  I apologize for the confusion I created by not making this announcement before yesterday.

Second, I am going to try to set up a real time discussion board for Thursday morning.  This means that if you go to turnitin.com on Thursday morning and hit the discussion tab, you will be able to type in questions or comments about Into the Wild.  If a bunch of us are logged on at a scheduled time, we will be able to have a live "discussion" of sorts.  Thursday's session is not mandatory (you will not get a grade for it), but I will be there at the times listed below, and I would love to hear from you.

Period 2:  9:00 - 9:20
Period 3:  9:20 - 9:40
Period 4:  9:40 - 10:00

Please note:  Some of you signed up for the wrong period on turnitin.com.  I think you will have to show up for the period to which you signed up in order to participate.

That's it for today.  Keep working on those reading comprehension questions and quotation responses for Ch.11 - Epilogue of Into the Wild, and, as always, email me if you have any questions.

Mr. Hall

Monday 4/13 Message

Good Morning,

I hope you all had a great weekend.

This week, you should be finishing your work on the second half of Into the Wild including the reading comprehension questions and quotation responses for chapter 11-Epilogue.  Please complete these two assignments and submit them to turnitin.com by Friday 4/17.

In addition, I am working to set up the details for our Socratic discussion, which I hope will take place on a message board on turnitin.com.  As a trial run, I am going to try to set up a message board for Thursday.  This will not be mandatory, but instead will be an opportunity to share ideas and ask questions in real time while getting familiar with the format of the discussion board.  I have not finalized details yet, so make sure you check back before Thursday for an update.

As always, email me if you have any questions.

Mr. Hall

Friday 4/10 Message

Good Morning,

Happy Friday.  The only information I have to report today is that I have added Late Work 2 and Late Work 3 to turnitin.com, so if you have additional assignments to submit, you now have a place to submit them.  As always, let me know if you have any problems.

Enjoy your weekend, and stay safe.  Next week we will get back after Into the Wild with reading comprehension questions and quotation responses for chapter 11-Epilogue due Friday.
