Tuesday 4/7 Message

Good Morning,

I hope you all are doing well.  Thank you to all of you who got your work posted on turnitin by last night.  Thank you for emailing me with your questions.  Communication is going to be important, so don't hesitate to send me an email any time.

Today, we are continuing with the second half of Into the Wild.  You should be reading, working on comprehension questions, and working on quotation responses.  I will post the last of the comprehension questions tomorrow.  The questions from chapter 11 through the end of the book as well as the second set of quotation responses will be due by the end of next week (4/17).

I hope all of your classes are going well.  Let me know if I can ever help in any way.

Stay safe.

Mr. Hall

Monday 4/6 Message

Good Morning,

I hope that all of you got to take some kind of a break last week and that all of you and your families are doing well.  You have probably heard the news that we are likely going to be finishing the school year using this online format.  I will miss seeing your faces, but I will look forward to communicating with you any way that I can.  I will continue to use this EDLIO site as my primary means of communication and turnitin.com to collect work and (hopefully) get some message boards going.

Our first "distance learning" assignments are due today.  Into the Wild ch 1-10 comprehension questions and quotation responses are due by midnight tonight on turnitin.com.  Please email me if you have any questions or problems.  I will check my emails throughout the day, but do not expect me to be online (or awake) until midnight tonight.

Also, keep working on your reading, comprehension questions, and quotation responses for the second half of Into the Wild.  They will be due by the end of next week.  I posted the comprehension questions for chapters 14-16 the Friday before Spring Break.  I will post the last of the comprehension questions on Wednesday.

As always, email me any time.

Stay Safe.

Friday 3/27 Message

Good Morning,

Well, this afternoon we go on Spring Break!  I will encourage you guys to try to find a way to make this a break.  I will not be posting messages or assignments during the break, so you can feel free to relax and take care of yourselves and your families.  I have posted the reading comprehension questions for chapters 14-16 of Into the Wild, but I have set the due date for these questions at 4/17.

If you have not already done so, please sign up for our class on turnitin.com, so I know that you are staying connected and are set up to turn in all of your work.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Enjoy your week off!!!

Mr. Hall

Thursday 3/26 Message

Good Morning, All,

I see that many of you have signed in to the turnitin.com page.  Thank you.  If you have not yet signed up, please do so ASAP.  The first two assignments are due 4/6, but I do not want you to have to do any work over Spring Break.

Also, let me clarify the assignment titles on turnitin.com.  All of the reading comprehension questions from Into the Wild chapters 1-10 should be submitted under Wild Comprehension Questions 1.  All of the reading comprehension questions from chapters 11 - Epilogue should be submitted under Wild Comprehension Questions 2.  Sorry for any confusion.

So, keep working on your reading, and look to submit the first set of comprehension questions as well as the first set of quotation responses.  I will post the second set of comprehension questions tomorrow.  Then...SPRING BREAK!!!

Email me if you have any questions, and stay safe!!  I hope to see you all soon.

Wednesday 3/25 Message

Good Morning, Everyone,

We are coming up on Spring Break, and while it promises to be a bit unorthodox, it should still be a break.  I will not expect any of you to be doing any assignments for me over the break.  We will have plenty of time to finish reading, reading comprehension questions, and quotation responses the week after the break.  That said, it is not Spring Break yet, so let's put in some work this week.

I have posted the reading comprehension questions for chapters 11-13.  Feel free to get started.  Also, look into setting up your turnitin.com account.  You may start turning in both the reading comprehension questions and the quotation responses from part 1 now.

As always, feel free to email me if you have any questions, and stay safe!!

Tuesday 3/24 Message

Good Morning, Starshines!

I hope this drizzly morning finds you all hanging in there.

Today's mission is to get organized.  Think about wrestling with the following if you have not done so already.

1.  Sign up for our class on turnitin.com.  If you need instructions, see the posts from Friday.

2.  Make sure your reading comprehension responses and quotation responses are typed up and ready to submit on turnitin.com.  I will keep the due date at 4/6, but it would be nice for you to have them submitted by the end of this week, before you have a week off for Spring Break.

That's it.  We will start attacking the second half of Into the Wild tomorrow with the goal of finishing it by Friday 4/10.

As always, email me if you have any questions and, of course, stay safe.

Monday 3/23 Message

Good Morning Everyone,

I wish I could see your bright, sunshiny faces when I wish you good morning, but nevertheless, I hope your morning is good.

If you did not see my Friday afternoon posts from last week, please go check them out.  They provide updates on some important things and details about how to proceed.  Here they are in a nutshell.

1.  Because the return to school date has been postponed (and possibly could be again), I have set up turnitin.com as a way to submit the work you have been doing.  Instructions are on the prior posts.  My apologies to periods 3 and 4 for originally posting the wrong class ID.  It should be fixed now. Please use this site to submit reading comprehension questions and quotation responses for Into the Wild.  Also, I am going to try to use this site to create a version of our Socratic discussion, but that will come later.  Please email me if you have any questions or problems.

2.  I have modified the pacing of the work I am asking you to do, pushing everything back one week.  This will give you the first half of this week to set up your turnitin.com account and prepare your work to submit.  Then, we will tackle the second half of the book through the end of the week after Spring Break.  If all goes well, I will be looking to start the Socratic discussion the week of 4/13.

So take today to get organized, and feel free to email me if you have questions or problems.

Stay safe.

Revised time line and due dates

Hi Everyone,

With things continuing to evolve, I know that there is a lot for you to juggle.  Because of this, I have decided to alter the pacing of our plan for the next four weeks.  I am going to give you a couple of days at the beginning of next week just to get caught up with the first half of Into the Wild and to get all of your work typed up to submit on turnitin.com.  Then, I will give you the rest of next week PLUS the week after Spring Break to complete the work for the second half of the book.  Starting 4/13, we will tackle the online version of the Socratic Seminar.  Basically, this just gives you an extra week to stay on top (1) the reading, (2) quotation responses, and (3) reading comprehension questions.

As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.  Have a great weekend.

Mr. Hall

IMPORTANT UPDATE: TURNITIN.COM

Hi All,

Because we are going to be out for an additional two weeks...at least, I have come up with a way for you to turn in your work. Both sets of comprehension questions and both sets of quotation responses should be submitted on turnitin.com (see instructions below). I apologize for the extra work this might create because you will have to type your work to submit it. I hope that the 4/6 due date will give you all plenty of time to get this done. Also, I am going to try to set up our Into the Wild Socratic discussion through turnitin. I will give you more information about that later. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

1. go to www.turnitin.com and create a student account for yourself
2. sign up for our class

Friday 3/20 Message

Good Morning, Class.

Well, it looks as though we are going to be at home until 4/20 at the earliest.  This means we are going to have to adapt a bit more and for a bit longer.  I have posted the discussion questions for chapters 8-10 of Into the Wild. You should be working on them as well as your quotation responses for chapters 1-10.  Next week, we will be tackling the second half of the book.

I will be hard at work trying to come up with creative ways to continue beyond 4/6, and I will keep you posted here on EDLIO as I figure things out.  Thank you for being adaptable.

Stay safe,

Mr. Hall

Thursday 3/19 Message

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you are all staying healthy and sane in your isolation.

Your mission for today is to stay caught up with the three assignments you have been working on. (1) Keep reading Into the Wild.  The goal is to be ready to tackle chapter 11 starting Monday.  (2) Keep working on your first set of 5 quotation responses.  This set should cover chapters 1-10.  (3) Finish the reading comprehension questions through chapter 7.  I will post the questions for chapters 8-10 tomorrow.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Stay safe,

Mr. Hall

Wednesday 3/18 Message

Good Morning Everyone,

Today, I posted the comprehension questions for chapters 4-7.  Please take your time to write thorough responses over the next two days.  I will post the questions for chapters 8-10 on Friday.

I hope you are enjoying Into the Wild at least a little bit.  I wish we could be tackling it more together.  I look forward to seeing your insights when I get to read your quotation responses.

I miss you guys, and I hope that we can get back into the classroom soon.

Stay safe,

Mr. Hall

Tuesday 3/17 Message
